About Me

My name is Christy, and I am a 19-year-old college freshman double majoring in Secondary Education (English) and Dance.

That said, I might as well warn you that I've never been very good at writing these little autobiographies.

Anyways, I was born on January 31, 1987, which makes me an Aquarius. Interestingly, the zodiac sign's characteristics fit me pretty well.

I like to describe myself as "artsy." I've been dancing (modern, ballet, jazz, etc.) since the age of three, and though Dance is one of my majors, I'm still not entirely sure where I want to go with it. Maybe I'll perform in a modern company someday, or else I'll teach. *shrugs* All I know is that I couldn't not dance.

I am a dancer, an artist, first and foremost.

I also love writing. Poetry, mainly. (I have a writing site, but because I constantly delete poems from it, it never seems very full.) Along the same lines, I love to read. Poetry wise, Sylvia Plath, Robert Frost, and Saul Williams are a few of my favorites. And novel wise, I love White Oleander (by Janet Fitch), The Bell Jar (Plath again), Girl, Interrupted (Susanna Kaysen), the Harry Potter series (J.K. Rowling), and anything by Neil Gaiman (a writer most famous for his graphic novel series The Sandman), among others.

I enjoy all sorts of artwork. The Impressionists - Degas, Van Gogh, etc. Fantasy artists like Amy Brown and Brian Froud. And a mix of contemporary artists: Kurt Halsey (a cartoon-inspired artist whose work deals with relationships, love, etc.), Crissy McMain (a "self-constructing," mixed media artist), and Ugo Rondinone (an installation artist whose work seems to revolve around the theme of loneliness). Lately, I've been purchasing quite a bit of art - ACEO's and prints. I like the idea of someday having an apartment filled with beautiful artwork.

Art is spiffy; I wish I could draw, but I really, really can't.

Hmmm... I'm a huge music fan, too. "Angry chick" (Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, etc.), alternative (the Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse), emo (Something Corporate, Death Cab for Cutie), movie soundtracks (The Hours, Moulin Rouge), and some choir music (Eric Whitacre is wonderful; you should check him out on MySpace if you think I'm weird for liking choir music).

See? Artsy.

Personality wise, I'm a bit harder to pin down. I'm pretty introverted. Unlike the typical college student, I don't like to party, and I'm perfectly happy spending my weekends relaxing at home. I like to spend a lot of time by myself - listening to music or surfing the Internet or whatever. At the same time, I've been told by a number of people that I'm extremely personable. And besides, I like talking. (My word choices and turn of phrase tend to be...eccentric.)

I am ridiculously self-critical. Take this autobiography, for instance. I've been trying to write one of these since I started this website back in middle school. And I'm fairly certain that this one won't be up for long before I decide there's something wrong with it.

I'm also very reflective. (This becomes obvious after you read my poetry and blog entries.) Beauty, love, life. There's a Kurt Halsey painting titled "I Kill Myself With Questions," a phrase which suits me incredibly well.

I like to think that I live with intensity. However, I've never been in love.

I am sad much too often, and my handwriting is so neat it's ugly, and I love early mornings and late nights.

I like watching visitors to my dorm room stare in bewilderment at my Sylvia Plath pop art print (framed and matted like all my other pictures).

Writing autobiographies wears me out. I need a nap.
